What is Survivors Fellowship London? Survivors Fellowship London is a group of men who meet to share our experiences, our strength and our hope with each other in the belief that it is possible to recover from the effects of childhood sexual abuse. We believe that through this fellowship we can help ourselves to heal and to overcome the legacies of abuse. We know that the process of recovery from sexual abuse can often be painful. However, we believe that recovery is worth it, and that in the company of others we can find the support and strength to deal with this pain. We can learn, one day at a time, that we are not victims but survivors. What is 'sexual abuse'? We define abuse very broadly as any childhood experience of a sexual nature with a person in a position of authority, trust or power. We believe that we have been affected by such abuse, however many times it occurred and whatever its nature. We learn in the Fellowship to accept that this abuse occurred, that we did not imagine it, and that it was not our fault in any way. What are the meetings like? After the introduction to the meeting is read out, the floor is open to anyone to talk about anything they want (for example, what they are going through at the moment). Each attendee who wants to speak will get the chance to, but there is no requirement to speak. The meeting is intended to be a safe and supportive environment where any man who has been affected by childhood sexual abuse can share whatever he wants with other men who have had a similar experience. Everything that is said in the group meeting or between members is held in absolute confidence. We do not have any professional therapist working in the group. The Fellowship is not a replacement for therapy or any other professional service when needed. Who can attend the meetings? The only requirement for those attending is that they are male survivors of childhood sexual abuse, and that they do not abuse any child and have not done so in the past. How many meetings should I attend? You can attend as many meetings as you want, whenever you want. How much does it cost to attend the meetings? There are no dues or fees for membership, we are self-supporting through our own contributions. In the interests of ensuring that we cover meeting overheads we suggest a contribution in the region of £3 but don’t feel excluded if you’re not able to contribute in every meeting. |
